Introduction
Audiometry is a subjective test which helps to identify the degree and type of hearing loss of a person having difficulty in hearing. It is done to calculate a proper defining degree of hearing loss is hearing disability so to help the patient with easy intervention at the earliest. Audiometry gives us a proper data on frequencies within the hearing spectrum (125Hz to 8KHz) of both air and bone conduction threshold.
Procedure
It is done using headphones or insert earphones. The patient is seated in a soundproof testing room visible to the clinician through a glass window. Patient is instructed properly about the hand raising procedure whenever the sound is heard. Clinician marks the result as per the patient response and hence average of frequencies is calculated for further diagnosis.
Recommendations
There are three types of hearing losses which includes Conductive, Sensorineural and Mixed hearing loss.
Depending upon the degree of hearing loss a person is having, further recommendations are made.
